Behind the Independent Woman Who Wants to Love Again

There was something powerful about our recent Conscious Connections personal growth discussion, Behind the Independent Woman Who Wants to Love Again.

We brought men and women together for an honest conversation about independence, vulnerability, emotional safety and what it really takes to create a healthy relationship after life has changed us.

One of the things that became very clear is that being independent doesn't necessarily mean we don't want someone. Many of us became independent because life required it. Divorce, loss, raising children, career changes, difficult relationships and simply learning how to navigate life can teach us to rely heavily on ourselves. That strength can become one of our greatest qualities, but sometimes it can also become a protective layer.

We talked about what happens when a woman wants love but has learned that being vulnerable can come with a price. What helps her trust again? What makes her feel emotionally safe? What causes her to pull back?

The women shared that consistency, patience, open communication, acceptance of emotions and respect for boundaries can make a tremendous difference. Feeling pressured, being talked over, experiencing aggression or having someone push physical intimacy before emotional trust has developed can have the opposite effect.

The men also brought an important perspective to the conversation. We explored what independence can look like from the outside and how some men may not always know whether an independent woman is interested, wants support or simply wants to do everything herself. We talked about the importance of communicating what independence actually means to each individual rather than making assumptions.

One of my favourite themes of the evening was the idea that independence and partnership don't have to compete with one another.

You can be strong and still want support.

You can know how to do everything yourself and still want someone beside you.

You can have built a beautiful life on your own and still want to share it with someone.

Perhaps the goal isn't to become less independent in order to find love. Perhaps it's learning how to allow the right person to contribute without feeling that your independence is being threatened.

We also touched on masculine and feminine energy, emotional independence, trust and the importance of knowing ourselves before expecting another person to understand us. Those conversations reminded me why I created Conscious Connections in the first place.

We don't need more places to tell men and women what they should be doing. We need more places where we can actually listen to one another.

That is what makes these discussions so valuable.

This was a powerful evening with honest perspectives, thoughtful questions and plenty to reflect on long after the Zoom room closed.

If you missed this one, watch my Event page for upcoming personal growth discussions. Each conversation explores a different aspect of personal growth, relationships and creating more conscious connections with ourselves, others and the Divine.

The edited replay from this evening will also be available through the Conscious Community, where you can catch up on this conversation and access future replays.

Sometimes the relationship we're looking for begins with understanding ourselves a little better.

In Love & Light,
Angela
